The Irish Cultural and Learning Foundation, the founding organization of the Irish Cultural Center and McClelland Library, is coming up on our major charity event of the year, the 11th Annual Anam Cara (Soul Friend) Awards Gala to be held on Saturday, October 20, 2018! Join us for our second lecture in our On The Druids series at the Irish Cultural Center as we explore The Seat of the Soul: Celtic Beliefs Regarding the Head.
Why was the head so important to the Celtic-speaking Tribes? What were their beliefs regarding the afterlife?
What did the Tribes believe happens to the soul after it has left its shell?
Join us as we delve into the ancestor mound and explore the beliefs surrounding the passing on of loved ones amongst the Tribes. Presented by Lytawn Crow.

Come join us after our monthly lecture at the Irish Cultural Center as we learn how to carve Turnip heads for Samhain! These precursors of our modern day jack’o’lanterns were carved in Ireland and Scotland before the discovery of pumpkins in the New World.
Items needed to participate:
One or two turnips, the bigger the better; a pairing knife; a spoon; a pencil; and either an exato knife or a small skewer.
Littles will need to have parents assisting with the cutting.
Free event but donations gladly accepted.
Phoenix Pagan Pride Day 2018: Free workshops, kid’s craft table, readers, healers, dancing and live entertainment as well as morning, noon and evening ceremonies. Local artisans and shops from around the Valley on hand with a wide variety of gifts and tools for purchase. Take part in the scavenger hunt and have fun learning about the local Pagan community. Food trucks available on site.

Join us for our third installment of our lecture series at the Irish Cultural Center as we explore Sacred Food Traditions of the Indo-Europeans.
How did our ancestors’ feasts and daily dinner table look?
What foods would be abundant during different times of the year? What dishes were considered sacred for specific seasons?
What traditions and taboos did our ancestors have regarding feasting?
We will journey through a culinary exploration of what religious and/or seasonal significance surrounding food and feasting among various Indo-European cultures. Presented by Michelle West.

Join us for our fourth annual “Christmas at the Castle” at the Irish Cultural Center & McClelland Library. This magical family-friendly event features live performances, wonderful food, fun games, photos with Santa, storytime with Mrs. Claus, the affiliate Christmas Tree contest, a cash bar, and holiday cheer! Grove of the Rising Phoenix is delighted to participate in the Irish Cultural Center’s annual Winter Solstice celebration once again this year!
The evening will have a short parade, remembrances of the fallen, a Druidic Ritual celebrating the Solstice as in days of old, kid’s story-time, a presentation on Newgrange, music and merriment from Celtica and De Mairt Ceol, and handmade items from the Celtic Crafters available for sale.
Solstice marks the longest night of the year when the sun is at its lowest elevation in the sky. The return of the sun from its most southern position on the horizon has always been of great ceremonial significance, in addition to serving as a celestial clock. Here in Phoenix the annual winter solstice begins at 5:15 with poetry, music and crafts.
Food and both non-alcoholic and alcoholic beverages will be available for purchase.

Parking at the ICC is extremely limited. Folks can park at the Culver St parking lot at Margaret Hance Park north of the ICC, or ride the Light Rail and get off at the Central/Roosevelt stop south of the ICC.
